Introduction To My Blog!!!

Good Evening and welcome to my blog. My name is Joe Mullins and me and my family live in a small town east of the Tennessee River called Sparta. We have a commerical cow-calf operation which keeps us continuously busy. About six months ago, I began to realize after speaking to a person in the grocery store, just how distant most people are who dont farm, from their food sources. Many believe I have come to feel, that their meat is created in a room by a butcher who they occasionally see appear with a wrapped set of cold cuts. Many believe we abuse our animals, starve them, allow them to stay in dirty pens, and occasionally water them. From all the negative publicity surrounding the beef industry, most see only a handful of blown up stories and isolated instances and stereotype all of us who have lived and enjoyed being a part of the cattle industry. It was then that I realized that the only way people who live in the cities and towns far secluded from the farms and ranches across the nation, are going to see the truth is for us to broadcast it right in front of their faces in language they can understand. So it is that this blog was created to highlight J_M Ranch and the various daily chores, feeding and all around care we take with these cattle. On this blog of course we can't post every single cow we have, that would take too much time and space on this blog. Sooooo. We have chosen a few of them which we will follow by video blog daily, one, called Ruth, is an Angus Longhorn cross heiffer, which will calve this spring in late May. The next is Rachel who is a Branvieh/Longhorn cross cow which just gave birth to a nice calf this fall in August. The third cow is Molly who is a half sister to Rachel and also the same genetic cross. Then lastly is Molly's calf from May. She will be the heiffer we have chosen to remain as a replacement for the coming Fall breeding season.
So there you have it. Hopefully by highlighting the way we treat, feed, water, and aid these cattle in the coming year, and the work we do here on this farm, will help many understand that we are not raising beef that is contaminated, diseased ridden, or pumped full of hormones. We raise pure grass fed beef the way God intended it to be. Any comments, questions or just any curiosities you wish to express, please feel free to post here beneath each post.
Also in this blog is a series of links to various websites across the internet. Here you can find market info, vet advice or info, up to the minute news about what's going on in the beef industry, hot topics, farm news and resources, kids games, and pretty much anything you need to be a successful and informed cattle buyer, seller, meat producer, packer, feed lot specialist, or a consumer just curious about how all this works. Feel free to check out each link, watch the live video on You tube vid, but remember come back and read my blog posts or check out my next video upload, you don;t want to miss it. Oh...by the way... on my next blog post tonight, I am posting the history behind cattle and how all this got started in the first place. Congress thinks that cattle are the problem with the environment, funny thing is this post proves cattle have been around alot longer than the issue we face today, so I would say given the proof, I'd say it was man's fault not the cattle that our air is polluted and our ice caps are melting not the cow.
God Bless all of you and tune in next time.
